Abstract
1328374 Electro-photographic material ITEK CORP 19 Aug 1970 [3 Sept 1969] 40003/70 Heading G2H An electro-photographic medium which may be rendered irreversibly conductive, comprises a support having coated thereon an organic halogen derivative capable of forming a hydrohalide acid on exposure to light and (a) a cyanine dye base of formula (b) a spiropyran of formula (c) an N-vinyl carbazole of formula (d) a dipheny ethylene of formula or (e) a leuco xanthene of formula In the above formulae, d and e are 1 or 2; n is 1 to 4; R is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; R<SP>1</SP> is H or CN; Q and Z are the atoms necessary to complete a 5 or 6- membered heterocylic nucleus; Y<SP>1</SP> is two radicals at least one being NO 2 and the other NO 2 , OCH 3 , Ce, Br, I or F; R<SP>11</SP> is H or alkyl; a is O to the number of replaceable hydrogen atoms in the aryl nucleus and Y is a substituent radical preferably Br. In the specific embodiments the organic halogen derivative is carbon tetrabromide, hexabromoethane or tribromoacetophenone together with N-vinyl carbazole or a specific cyanine dye base and a resin Many organic halogen derivatives, resins and examples of the compounds of Formulae I to V are given. In use the medium is exposed to an image, charged and then developed. Multiple copies may be taken from the exposed medium by repeating the charging and developing steps.
