Abstract

1335080 Sealing quartz glass by plasma heating PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970] 26097/71 Heading C1M The quartz evacuation tube 5 of an evacuated envelope 1 is sealed off by heating with two plasma burners 7, 8 and also by an electric arc 11 struck between the burners. The tube 5 is moved relative to the envelope to elongate and seal it. The two burners are positioned on axes making an angle of less than 180 degrees (Fig. 2).
