Abstract
1,255,030. Electric discharge tubes. NARVA VEB. 31 Dec., 1968, No. 61912/68. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C1] In a method of sealing vacuum vessels, e.g. envelopes of gas discharge devices, electric lamps or electronic tubes, the vessel is disposed in a container and evacuated therein, a heated surface 5 is then urged against the end face of a glass pump tube projection of the vessel to soften and seal it and the pressure in the container is then increased whereby the softened glass is caused to compress radially with respect to the pump tube axis to complete the seal. After this the heated surface is withdrawn from the fusion seal along the pump tube axis. Heated surface 5 may form part of an electrically heated metal laminar heater.
