Abstract

1319148 Electrostatic printing apparatus XEROX CORP 24 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 55851/70 Heading B6C Copy sheets 15 are carried by endless belt 20 in a substantially flat condition, being held to the belt 20 by suction, and receive electrostatic toner images from reducing drum 13, transfer of the toner to the sheets 15 being aided by an electrostatic field imposed between the drum 13 and the belt 20. The belt 20 may comprise an inner layer 22 of electrically conductive material, such as a flexible steel band, and an outer layer 21 of electrically non-conductive material, perforated for application of suction. Alternatively the belt 20 may be entirely non-conducting and the electrostatic field be imposed by a stationary electrode. Again, the belt 20 may be non- conductive, and pass over a succession of mutually insulated electrodes, at increasing voltages, corresponding to increasing distances between the surface of the drum 13 and that of the copy sheet is after contact.
