Abstract
1337590 Transferring images XEROX CORP 21 Dec 1970 [24 Dec 1969] 60527/70 Heading B6C [Also in Division G2] Insulating images carried on conductive layers formed by the photoelectrophoretic or manifold imaging process are transferred to an image receiving layer which may or may not be conductive by providing a charged image of a given polarity and establishing an electric field across said image receiving layer and image material such that the surface thereof contacting said image is of opposite polarity to said given polarity and separating the image bearing medium from the image receiving medium. The electric field is established by means of a charged insulating layer, the surface of said insulating layer having the same polarity as said image being electrically connected to the image bearing medium, the opposite surface being connected to the receiving medium. The insulating layer may constitute the receiving medium. The receiving medium may be sandwiched between two complementary images formed by the manifold imaging process so as to form positive and negative images on opposite sides thereof. Colour separations may be proofed using the transfer process. An apparatus for carrying out the process is shown in Fig. 3, and comprises a corona discharge device 49, an image bearing medium 47 and receiving material 55, an insulating web 59 charged by corona 63 and conductive rollers 61 and 57 connected in use by wire 58.
