Abstract

1,040,371. Producing electrostatic images. RANK XEROX Ltd. Jan. 2,1964 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 235/64. Heading G2H. An electrostatic image is produced on a dielectric layer 13 by superimposing an image bearing member 11 on the layer. The member 11 is of conductive material, e.g. paper and is impressed to a depth of about 7/10 miles with the image e.g., by typing not using a ribbon. The layer 13 may be precharged positively, Fig. 3a (not shown) before the member 11 a negative charge, Fig. 3b, (not shown). Removal of the member 11 leaves charged image areas 20 which may be developed by cascading toner 21 across the layer 13. In a modification, an electrically connected roller 18 Fig.4 (not shown) is rolled across the member 11 after the layer 13 has been charged. In a continuously operating apparatus, member 11 Fig. 5 (not shown) is impressed by an impression roller 27 carrying a flexible sheet 30, engages charged layer 13 to produce an image which is then developed and transferred to a web 10.
