Abstract

1307958 Flash bulbs PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES LTD 2 Nov 1971 [5 Nov 1970] 50796/71 Heading G2L A flash bulb comprises an outer envelope 1 with a base 2, and an inner envelope 11, open at its end facing the base, and containing an oxidisible metal 10, the envelope 11 having an aperture 12 at its upper end, the cross sectional area of which is at most 30% of the area bounded by the inner wall of the envelope 11, measured in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the envelope. The metal 10 may be zirconium wool, and the bulb may contain an oxygen atmosphere. The metal 10 may be held apart from ignition material 9 by drops of water glass. The gap between the envelop walls, 'a', may be 0À5 mins, the overall dimensions of the bulb being 6 mm diameter and 24 mm in height. Ignition may be from a high voltage piezo-electric source.
