Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the emitter from falling off, and reduce the firing potential of an electric-discharge lamp, by providing grids having large numbers of emitter- storing spaces within a bucket, before the emitter is packed in the emitter-storing spaces with slight spaces between the emitter and the grids. CONSTITUTION:Grids 4, which is made of a material which does not react with mercUry, does not generate any impure gases, and has many emitter-storing spaces 5 separated into squares, are installed in a bucket 2' which is supported by a conductive wire 1. An emitter 3' made of a mixture of a peroxide of an alkaline earth metal with iron, tantalum or the like, is packed into the emitter-storing spaces 5. After that, the emitter 3' packed is sintered at a high temperature in a reducing atmosphere, thereby slight spaces being arisen between the grids 4 and the emitter 3'. Owing to the above constitution, the bursting of electrons can be smoothed, the firing potential of an electric-discharge lamp can be reduced, and the faling of the emitter 3' can be prevented. Accordingly, the life and the reliability of the lamp can be increased.
