Abstract
898,505. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 29, 1959 [June 3, 1958], No. 18378/59. Class 39(1). A getter container 1 with parallel side walls 2, 3 and base 5 contains gettering material 4 the surface of which is perpendicular, at every point, to the desired direction of propagation of vapour at that point, the getter material being of a metal, alloy which retains its surface configuration on heating. The container is preferably in the form of circular or rectangular ring and the surface of the gettering material it contains may be concave, convex, or planar and sloping relative to the container axis and side walls, and the container may be so shaped that the base 5 lies parallel with the sloping surface of the gettering material. The gettering material comprises 50% barium aluminium alloy and 50% nickel. The nickel may be replaced either wholly or in part by a nickeltitanium compound.
