Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In melting, annealing, &c. furnaces, hydrocarbons and water or water vapour, are supplied together or separately to an open gasifier located in and exposed to the radiant heat of the furnace, the gasifier being ' washed ' by hot air supplied for combustion. The gasifier comprises one or more fire-proof plates made of fire-clay or the like, and may be fiat or provided with one or more bulges or recesses.
