Abstract
130,411. Ricardo, H. R. Feb. 18, 1918. Pistons; pistons, balancing laterally.-In the piston of an internal-combustion engine, the thrust of the connecting-rod is taken by two opposite slippers C, D forming extensions of the piston flange B and united by two parallel webs E which carry the gudgeon-pin bosses F. The slippers are of different areas, and the gudgeon-pin bosses F are offset towards the smaller slipper C, which takes the thrust during the power stroke. A transverse web G extends between the bosses F and the piston crown, and an horizontal web H between the bosses F and the slipper D. The slippers C, D are preferably perforated, as shown. In a modification, specially applicable to aluminium and like pistons, the webs E are inclined, and the web H is dispensed with.
