Abstract

1284217 Continuous dyeing of fibres VEPA AG 20 Feb 1970 [26 Feb 1969 31 Jan 1970] 8267/70 Addition to 1195916 Heading D1L Rovings 23, having been pad dyed, are set in a sealed setting device 27 during passage around at least one of three sieve drums 17 to 19 and passage in a folded state along a sieve conveyor belt 29, the sieve drum being subject to a suction draught and continuously recirculating steam or hot air, the rovings being in a tension-free state. The rovings are finally passed through sieve drum washers and dryers and are then wound up (see Fig. 1). The conveying speed of the belt 9 is slower than that of the sieve drums 17 to 19. Synthetic fibres, e.g. polyacrylonitrile and polyacrylate are treated with saturated steam at 100 to 102‹C for from 3 to 20 minutes, and polyester fibres are treated by the thermostat process with hot air or superheated steam at 170 to 230‹C for from 20 sec. to 1 minute. The setting device, which may include only one sieve drum (Fig. 1), is sealed at the inlet and outlet by squeeze rolls 22. The device may treat bands of rovings, slabs, or fibres between 1200 mm and 1800 or more mm wide at a rate of 150 m/minute.
