Abstract

1,151,317. Continuous dyeing of synthetic filaments. VEPA A.G. 13 Sept., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 41703/67. Headings D1B and D1L. Continuous pad-dyeing or printing of synthetic filament groups e.g. tows and slivers of synthetic staple fibres with dyes which are set under the influence of heat is effected by passing a gas e.g. air heated to 170-230‹C through the filament groups or slivers which have been printed or padded with dye compositions, preferably a suction draft is employed. An apparatus for effecting the process consists of a padding or printing device with a sieve drum treatment device subjected to a suction draft the drums being covered with at least one fine wire mesh. In Fig. 1 tows 1 in cans 2 are arranged in parallel by a rake 3 and spread by blowing and spreading devices 4 and 5 and fed to a padder 6 impregnated with dye and passed to a sieve drum treatment plant 7. Partition 8 divides the plant into a drying chamber 9 and setting chamber 10 both chambers having sieve drums 11 subjected to a suction draft there also being provided baffles 12. Suction drum bowls 20 are used for washing followed by drying in sieve drums 21. After drying the materials are then separated by rake 3 and packed into cans 2. Each sieve drum is provided with a fan 13 and separated from it by a partition 14 which provides a treatment chamber 15 and fan chamber 16. Heater batteries 17 are used to heat the circulating medium which is equalized by sheets 18. The intake of the sieve drums is provided with rollers 19 the speed of which may be adjusted.
