Abstract

A method of dye setting synthetic textile materials comprises passing the material first through a dye bath, then through a medium of a mixture of air and steam to stabilize the dyeing agents, the molecular chains of the fibres of the material are then caused to vibrate thus loosening the structure to allow the dyeing agents to penetrate the fibre, the material is finally cooled. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a dye bath (2), the Fig. (not shown), followed by a dye setting chamber (3) through which the material is guided by rollers (4). The chamber (3) is divided into separate passages by walls (5), each passage being provided with heating means (6), a steam source (7) and an exhaust (8); the temperature and required mixture of air and steam is controllable. The material then passes through a chamber (10) equipped with infra-red radiators (11), which cause the molecular chains of the material to vibrate by electromagnetic undulations, and a suction device (12). After leaving the chamber (10) the material is cooled.
