Abstract

[Also in Division D1] In a process for the gaseous treatment of textile material which tends to shrink during. said treatment, and which treatment is carried out in several stages each of which includes the passage of the material over a sieve drum. The material is only tensioned and/or held at both edges in that stage(s) in which an essential material shrinkage occurs. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a closed housing 1 subdivided into three chambers 6, 7, 8 by partition walls 5, each chamber being further subdivided by partition 2 into a fan chamber and a treatment chamber; in each treatment chamber, at least one sieve drum subjected to suction is provided as a conveying element for the material, the sieve drum of one chamber, viz. chamber 7 being provided with holding and fastening elements. The holding and fastening elements are preferably pin-rings or pin-ring segments, the material being held on the pins. In a preferred embodiment, the process is carried out in three stages viz. a heating-up stage, a setting stage and a cooling stage. The material is held on the pins in the setting stage. Heating elements are provided in the fan chambers associated with the heating-up chamber 6 and the setting chamber 7. The material is preferably fed with lengthwise and widthwise slack to the setting chamber 7, the sieve drums in the chambers being associated with separate infinitely variable drives. In the Specification, " gaseous treatment " means subjecting to the action of gaseous media and includes drying, steaming and heat-setting by means of hot air or steam.
