Abstract

1399666 Finishing fabrics VEPA AG 9 Feb 1973 [10 Feb 1972 (2) 23 Feb 1972] 6366/ 73 Headings D1L and D1S Fabric finishing or treating apparatus comprises a perforated drum drying device 1 in which the fabric is uniformly heated on at least one perforated drum and a setting apparatus 2 including a tentering device arranged in a housing separated from the drying device 1, the arrangement being such that fabric 6 moving from the device 1 to the apparatus 2 is enclosed in a heat insulated passage 8. In one embodiment, Fig 1, the device 1 comprises a plurality of perforated drums rotatable in a treatment chamber to which air, heated by units 4, is supplied through perforated plates 3, circulation fans 5 being provided. The fabric 6 passes through the heat-insulated passage 8 to the inlet 9 of the apparatus 2. Devices 10 pin the fabric onto the tenter chains and it is conveyed to a heating section 11 and brought to the desired width. The chains extend parallel to each other in a section 13 adjacent the section 11. Whilst held by the tenter chains, the fabric passes around a perforated drum 14 subjected to suction by an internal fan 15 and which is external of the housing of the device 2 to effect cooling. After passing for more than 180‹ around the drum 14, the fabric is unpinned. Pipes 16 connect the passage 8 to the heating section 11 to keep this passage at the treatment temperature. The pinning section of the device 2 is provided with a pivotable flap 17 which, for inspection, has a window or is made of transparent material. In another embodiment, Fig 2, the fabric 6 passes through a device 1 similar to that of Fig 1 and through the heat insulated passage 8 to a securing area 9 at which it is pinned or clipped to the tenter chains. An endless belt 20 supports the fabric. Whilst held by the chains, the fabric passes around a heated perforated drum 19 and through a device 14 in which it is cooled by fans 15 after which it is unpinned or unclipped. In a further embodiment, Fig 3, the fabric is held on tenter chains whilst passing around both the drying means 1 and the setting means 2. The means 1, 2 each comprising a perforated drum subjected to suction. A cooling device comprising a perforated drum 14 is provided. In the heat-insulated passage 8 connecting the means 1, 2, the fabric is supported by an endless belt 20.
