Abstract

1,146,954. Textile treating apparaus. VEPA A.G. 5 April, 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 15634/67. Heading D1L. Apparatus for treating e.g. steaming, dye setting and drying textile materials comprises sieve drums subjected to a suction draft, the material being guided on one side only, and fans correlated to the end faces of the drums for producing the suction, the treating medium being returned to the drum from above and below, and the parts of the drums not covered by material being at least partly free from baffles. In a preferred embodiment the apparatus is used for steaming and comprises a chamber 1 having inlet casing 14 subjected to suction and a water seal outlet 17. A trough 9 of water 10 is provided at the bottom of the chamber 1 for the production of steam, heating elements 11 being provided in the trough. Two sieve drums 4 are situated in the chamber 1, spaced from each other a distance greater than twice the material thickness, the material 12 being supported on the upper parts of the drums 4 and hanging in a loop between the drums. Baffle plates 8 are provided above and below the drums to ensure even distribution of the treating medium. The lower part of each drum is provided with perforated baffles 19 slidable relative to each other to control the suction through that part. The chamber 1 is preferably divided into a fan chamber and a treatment chamber, the fan chamber being equipped with heating elements in the path of the treating medium. The intake casing 14 is preferably heated to prevent condensation therein. A casing subjected to suction may also be provided at the outlet; a labyrinth seal 16 may be provided between the intake and/or outlet casing and the chamber 1. The speeds of the inlet and outlet conveying elements and the drum may be adjustable independently of each other.
