Abstract

1281941 Anodizing aluminium; coloured coatings RIKEN DENKA KOGYO K K 15 July 1969 [18 July 1968 (2) 19 Oct 1968 2 April 1969] 35524/69 Heading C7B Coloured anodized coatings are produced on aluminium or aluminium alloy surfaces using as electrolyte an aqueous solution containing 0.05- 3 wt per cent sulphuric acid or an equivalent amount of metal sulphate, e.g. ferric, cobalt, manganese or nickel sulphate, together with either 2.4-40 wt per cent cresolsulphonic acid or 0.5-40 wt per cent cresolsulphonic acid and 0.5-5 wt per cent sulphosalicylic acid. The above treatment may be preceded by anodizing using oxalic acid or sulphuric acid as electrolyte, or may be followed by immersion in a 1-10 wt per cent aqueous solution of ammonium ferric oxalate. Sealing of the resultant coatings may be effected by use of steam.
