Abstract

1278933 Trays P E ELFORD 24 Sept 1969 [24 June 1968] 30041/68 Heading B8P A substantially rectangular blank for a tray is cut at the comers to form a split tongue 28, 29, projections 25, 26, recesses 35, 36 and a cut-out 21, and is scored or creased along lines 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 and cut along lines 19 and 20. The blank is loaded with containers 22 and is lowered in a forming machine to erect the side walls 30, 31 whilst a finger of the forming tool engages the portions 28, 29 of the split tongue, folding them over the top edges of the recesses 35, 36 to mechanically lock an edge of each portion 28, 29 with an edge of each projection 25, 26, and the faces of portions 28, 29 with a container 22. In a modification, a straight diagonal cut or crease may be provided instead of the cut-out 21.
