Abstract

1389711 Cartons REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 2 Nov 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 51813/72 Heading B8P A carton of cardboard or corrugated board and folded from the blank shown in Fig. 1, has portions 13, 14, 19 that form corner posts in the erected carton so that filled cartons can be supported one on another. Flaps 6 extending from sides 2 have oblique slots 8 so that the flaps 6 can be interlocked and handholds 9 will register with handholes 16 in end walls 4. Alternatively, outwardly folding flaps in the end walls may form handles. Extensions 17 on the end walls are folded inwardly to enclose the flaps 6 and tongues 21 engage slots 22 in the base 1. The side strips 19 on the extensions 17 lie against the portions 13 to reinforce the corner posts. The corner posts which are triangular when folded from the blank shown in Fig. 1, may alternatively be of square cross-section. A cut-out 15 in each flap 6 ensures an even height for all four sides of the carton, alternatively the end walls may be lower than the sides.
