Abstract

A display carton is formed from a cut and scored blank of paper board and comprises major and minor panels foldably connected to define a tube. One of the minor panels has a width less than the width of the other minor panel for a substantial portion of its length with its ends having a width equal to the other minor panel. One of the major panels has spaced cut lines extending transversely thereof and in alignment with cut lines defining the end portions of one of the minor panels. A fold line is provided in one of the major panels and connects inner ends of the cut lines to define a narrow longitudinal panel along one side of the tube, and a fold line in the same major panel is spaced from the last named fold line to define a main subpanel which is foldably connected to the narrow panel and spaced from the other major panel. Closure means are provided at one end of the tube and includes inner and outer closure flaps, the inner closure flap having three flap elements, one being folded into facing relationship to a major panel, a second being folded perpendicularly thereto and standing between both of the major panels, a third of the flap elements being folded into facing relationship with said one major panel. The second flap element has at least one tab element extending therefrom and between the main subpanel and the other major panel to support the main sub panel.

Primary Examiner-Leonard Summer Attorney, Agent, or Firm-Carpenter, Ostis & Lindberg [5 7] ABSTRACT A display carton is formed from a cut and scored blank of paper board and comprises major and minor panels foldably connected to define a tube. One of the minor panels has a width less than the width of the,
, minor panels. The second flap element has at least one -tab element extending therefrom and between the main subpanel and the other major panel to support the main sub panel.
1 Claim, 7 Drawing Figures THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an isometric view of a display carton having the improvements according to the present invention embodied therein;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of a cut and scored blank for forming the carton seen in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a part of the carton seen in FIG. l,showing certain details of construction; FIG. 4 is a plan view of the carton seen in FIG. 1;
FIG. 5 is a transverse sectional view looking in the direction of the arrows 55 of FIG. 4;
FIG. 6 is a transverse sectional view looking in the direction of the arrows 6-6 of FIG. 4; and
FIG. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view looking in the direction of the arrows 7--7 of FIG. 4.
The improved display carton according to the pres- I major panel 13. third flapelement 48 is foldably conent invention is referred to by the reference numeral l0, and is formed from a cut and scored blank 10A of paper board or the like seen in FIG. 2. Blank 10A includes a major bottom panel 11, minor side panel 12, a major top panel 13 and a opposite side panel 14, these being foldably connected along parallel fold lines 16. A glue flap 17 is foldably connected to the main bottom panel 11 along a fold line 18 and is glued to the opposite side panel 14 to define a tube. I
The minor panel 12 has a portion 21 of lesser width than the width of the other minor panel 14, it being defined by one of the fold lines 16 and a fold line 19 spaced therefrom, so that the panel 21 extends for a substantial distance longitudinally of the minor panel 12, the minor panel 12 having end portions 22 of a width corresponding to the opposite minor panel 14.
The upper major panel 13 has spaced transverse cut lines 23 and 24., these extending into the fold line 19,
and the cut lines 23 and 24 are connected in the top panel 13 by a fold line 26 to provide a main subpanel 28, which is additionally defined by fold lines 27 spaced from the fold line 26.
Cut lines 29 and 30 define a tab 30A adapted to rest against the lower major panel 11, as seen particularly in FIGS. 1 and 5. Fold line 27 is also connected to a cut line 32 connected in turn to the out line 23 whereby the out line 30A may rest upon lower panel 11.
Closure means are provided for one end of the tube and consist of dust flaps 34 foldably connected along fold line 36; and a outer closure flap 37 is also connected between the two dust flaps 34 to the left end of the upper major panel 13, closure flap 37 having a tuck flap 38 foldably connected thereto along a fold line 39.
Structure is provided for closing the opposite end of the tube and the main subpanel 28, and includes dust flaps 43 foldably connected along a fold line 42 to the other ends of the minor panels l2'and 14. An inner clo sure flap 41 includes a first flap element 44 which is foldably connected to a second flap element 46 along a fold line 47, the latter being folded to an erected position between the lower major panel 11 and the upper nected to the second flap element 46 along a fold line 49 to fold into facing relationship with the upper major panel 13.
The secondflap element 46 is provided with at least one tab element 51 folded with respect thereto along a fold line 53, there being two tab elements shown and each extending between the lower major panel II and the main subpanel 28 to support the latter. As seen in the several views the structure thus far described provides a display carton, and in order to fit therein an object for display one or more apertures 54 may be provided in the subpanel 28 and in the inclined panel 31.
The closure of the opposite end is completed by closure flap 40 foldably connected to panel 13 along a fold line 42, closure flap'40 including a tuck flap 40A foldably connected along a fold line 40C.
The panels'll, l3 and the closure consisting of elements 40A, 48 and 44 are each provided with an aperture 408, the apertures 40B falling into register for suspending the carton 10.
I claim:
1. A display carton formed from a cut and scored blank of paperboard or the like and comprising:
a. major and minor panels foldably connected to define a tube;
