Abstract

1,139,141. Packaging tumblers; cartons. F. D. LAWRENCE. 31 May, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 23220/65. Headings B8C and B8P. A holder for a stack of nestable articles is made from a one-piece blank and comprises at least one side wall with content supporting flaps pivoted to the wall. The blank is preferably cardboard and is folded into U-shape around a tumbler 40 and the flaps 22 folded across the top of the tumbler. A second tumbler 41 is then nested in the tumbler 40 pushing the flaps 22 into the lower tumbler. Flaps 23 are folded across the tumbler 41 and pushed into the tumbler by a third tumbler 42. The holder is held around the tumblers by a tongue- and-slot connection on end flaps 26. In a further embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the supporting flaps (74)-(76) are formed so that they hinge about the upper edge of a separate cut out. The closure panels (52), (60) interlock by folding a pair of flaps (78) on one panel (60) through a rectangular hole (71) on the other panel (52). In a further embodiment, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the blank is folded as before but the nested tumblers are separated by folding the side walls of the holder strip inwards above the first tumbler 40, and then outwards about a further fold line to form a double thickness spacer. The second tumbler 41 is nested in the tumbler 40 with the spacer between them and so on. The holders may be adapted to accommodate several stacks of tumblers.
