Abstract
1,260,547. Packaging flat articles. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 17 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 30517/69. Heading B8C. Flat, flexible articles, e.g. sheets, bags, napkins, are packaged in cartons 18 by arranging the articles, which may be folded, into a stack 10, corrugating the stack 10 into loose, deep folds 16 compressing the corrugated folds 16 and then packaging into the carton 18. The corrugated folds 16 are produced by placing the stack 10 on a set of parallel, horizontal, spacedapart stationary fingers 12 above which is another set of fingers 14 which are positioned in offset relationship with respect to the fingers 12, and the stack 10 is forced downwardly by lowering the fingers 14 to pass below the plane of the fingers 12 as shown in Fig. 2. The fingers 12, 14 are then withdrawn and the stack 10 compressed and packaged in the carton 18. The articles can be dispensed one by one from the carton through a slot 20 which affords access from outside to the upper portion of at least one fold 16 of the stack 10. Articles of very large widths may be individually folded more than once before stacking. The articles may be of a plastics material, e.g. polyolefin or vinyl film.
