Abstract

1471662 Stackable cardboard cartons GREENWICH PACKAGING Ltd 23 July 1974 [8 June 1973] 27490/73 Heading B8P A stackable carton includes a pair of end side walls 30, 32 provided at their upper edges with a pair of projections 34 and at their lower edges with a pair of recesses 36. During stacking of the cartons the projections on one carton are received by the recesses of its neighbour. The carton is erected from a blank comprising a central panel 10, which forms the base of the carton and side or end wall forming panels 14, 16, 18, 20 each of which is provided at its free end with a top flap 22, 24, 26, 28. Panels 16 and 20 are provided with folding flaps 30 or 32 destined to fold over side walls 14 and 18 and carrying projections 34 and recesses 30 to facilitate stacking. In erecting the carton, use is made of a former comprising a stiff sheet 38 of plastics material having upstanding projections 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 and 50, the inner edges of which lie on an imaginary rectangle defined by the central panel of the blank. In use, the blank is pushed on to the former, the projections causing the side panels 14, 16, 18 and 20 to be erected after which the top flaps and the folding flaps are folded into position, the whole being secured by adhesive tape perhaps previously laid in the former as indicated at 54 in Fig. 4. The blank may be of a sandwich construction comprising flat and corrugated cardboard sheets.
