Abstract

1,269,213. Spray-producers. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 1 July, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 32737/68. Heading B2F. [Also in Division F4] A liquid spray nozzle, e.g. for use in the burners of gas turbine engines, is formed from a tubular body 10, Fig. 2, and an end wall 11 having (1) in its interior surface an annular groove 12 defining an island 13 through which runs a diametral bore 14, and (2) an external slot 16 extending in a direction transverse to the bore and communicating with it. Diametral grooves 17 and 18, Fig. 4, are formed in the nozzle head, as shown. The nozzle is mounted on a supporting stem 19, Fig. 5, enclosed within a sleeve 20. The sleeve has an inlet 22 for pressurized air, which flows through the annular space and the grooves 18 (only) in the head :of the nozzle, and a diametral slot 24 aligned with the slot 16 of the nozzle: When pressurized liquid and air are supplied to the stem 19 and inlet 22, respectively, the issuing fan-shaped air flow envelops and assists in the atomisation of the similarly orientated flat fanshaped spray of liquid.
