Abstract

1311801 Spray burners SPECTUS OIL BURNERS Ltd 15 Jan 1971 [16 Jan 1970] 2241/70 Heading F4T A fluid atomizer comprises a nozzle 1 within which is a swirler insert 2, the nozzle having a discharge orifice 10, the cavity leading to which is conical and convergent towards the orifice and has the swirler insert fitted snugly within it, one or more peripheral passages around the insert extending tangentially into a swirl chamber 16 between the insert and the orifice. Each passage defined by the insert may have a cross-section which decreases in area towards the swirl chamber, this being due to a decrease in passage width, depth or both. Each passage may also extend parallel to the axis of the insert at the inlet end thereof, the passage being curved with an optionally constant change of curvature. A further embodiment has a passage extending through the centre of the insert for the return from the swirl chamber 16 of spray material. The atomizer may be used to atomize fuel oil in such as a steam generating boiler.
