Abstract
1,267,648. Gas blast circuit breakers. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 21 July, 1970 [23 July, 1969], No. 35222/70. Heading HlN. In a gas blast circuit breaker the arc extinguishing blast passes from a high pressure chamber 5 through a first isolating valve and a blast valve 9 into a low pressure chamber 3 and then through a second isolating valve into a support insulator 1, the isolating valves being jointly operated by a single control member. The isolating valves comprise ports 6a, 6b, in respective parts 6, 6c of a tubular slider, registering with respective fixed ports 2b, 7a in cylinders 2a, 7b. The slider is held in the valve-open position, shown to the left of the Figure, by means of nuts threaded on to studs 12 projecting through cap 11. When released, the slider assumes the valve-closed position isolating the low pressure chamber 3. The switching chamber is located at 4 on the low pressure chamber, an insulating rod 10 operating the blast valve 9. A tube 8 maintains the pressure of the gas, which may be sulphur hexafluoride, in the chamber 5.
