Abstract

1,004,378. Gas blast switches. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Nov. 6, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 43775/63. Heading H2B. A multiple break, recirculating, gas blast circuit-breaker is mounted in an insulated metal tank 1 divided into a number of alternately-high and low pressure chambers by a plurality of insulating partitions 2a, 2b, 2c. Chambers 3a, 3b are filled with high-pressure SF 6 and contain respectively a first interrupter 5a with an isolator 6b, 6d, and two further interrupters 5b, 5c. To close the breaker the isolator 6 is closed; to open the breaker mechanically linked control devices 12a, 12b (not described) separate contacts 5d, 5e, 6d, 6b blast valves associated therewith, permitting a flow of extinguishing gas into the low-pressure chambers 4a, 4b which contain perforated metal cylinders 7a, 7b serving to interconnect the fixed interrupter contacts. The isolator 6 remains open when the interrupters 5a, 5b, 5c reclose.
