Turning-gear.-The toothed quadrant 3 of a kick starter for motor-cycles gears with a pinion 4 loosely mounted between the two pinions on the secondary shaft of a change-speed gear, the spindle of the quadrant 3 being parallel to the secondary shaft. The pinion 4 engages the gear pinion 6 by means of ratchet-clutch teeth 5, and the main shaft of the gear is connected to the engine by a sprocket drive, with or without a shock-absorbing resilient joint and a friction clutch. A loose pinion or quadrant may be inserted between the pinions 4, 6 for reversing the rotation of the starting pedal 1 with regard to the engine.
