Abstract
1,259,515. Electro-depositing chromium. SCHERING A.G. Feb.3, 1969 [Feb. 3, 1968], No. 5662 /69. Heading C7B. A chromium plating electrolyte, e.g. containing 150-550 g/l CrO 3 , contains Pb SO 4 , e.g. 0À5-10%, and as concomitant activator, one or more of HF, HBF 4 , H 2 SiF 6 , metal -HF, H 3 BO 3 and salts (e.g. alkali metal) thereof, e.g. more than 0À05%, with or without an alkali metal dichromate, e.g. 10-40%, the percentages being calculated on the weight of the CrO 3 , for electrodepositing glossy, hard or micro-cracked Cr on a metal (e.g. Ni) surface. Examples of activators are: 2À6% or 3À16% or 5À45% K 2 SiF 6 ; 0À26% KF or HBF 4 or K 2 TiF 6 ; 0À95% H 3 BO 3 . 25% or 33% K 2 Cr 2 O 7 may be present.
