Abstract

910,858. Electroplating with cobalt-nickel alloys. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959], No. 41280/60. Class 41. A bath for the electrodeposition of a nickelcobalt alloy comprises an electrically-conducting solution containing 5-8 ozs. per gallon of cobalt sulphamate [Co(NH 2 SO 3 ) 2 ] and 5-8 ozs. per gallon of nickel sulphamate [Ni(NH 2 SO 3 ) 2 ]. It is desirable to add boric acid as a buffer and a sulphur compound such as potassium thiocyanate and saccharin may be added to effect stress relief. The deposition is carried out at a temperature of about 60‹ C. with a cathode current density of about 40 amps. per square foot. Agitation of the bath on the object during deposition is also stated to be desirable.
