Abstract

1294601 Electro-deposition of noble metals and alloys thereof WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 6 Jan 1970 [7 Jan 1969 15 April 1969] 611/70 Heading C7B A noble metal or noble metal alloy, e.g. gold, silver or gold alloyed with nickel, copper cobalt or indium, is electro-deposited from a bath containing a monalkyl acid phosphate or dialkyl acid phosphate, the alkyl groups being saturated and having a maximum of 4 carbon atoms. The noble metal may be present as an alkali metal or ammonium cyanide, e.g. potassium noble metal cyanide; and the bath may be buffered by a weak organic acid, e.g. citric, lactic, succinic, phthalic or tartaric acid, and an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof. Conductivity may be raised by inclusion of phosphorous, phosphoric or polyphosphoric acids. For silver deposition from acid baths alkali metal or ammonium thiocyanate may be present in the bath. Hydrazine may be present to prevent cyanide decomposition.
