Abstract

1,156,186. Electro-depositing gold and gold alloys. SEL-REX CORP. Sept. 26, 1966, No. 42913/66. Heading C7B. Bright, 24 carat gold is deposited from an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of alkali metal-gold cyanide and a piperazine compound such as piperazine or dimethyl piperazine and having a pH below 6À0. The electrolyte may also contain conducting salts to lower the deposition voltage and may also contain basemetal compounds, e.g. of copper or nickel to co-deposit with the gold. The solutions may be buffered by addition of alkali metal or ammonium salts of weak inorganic or organic acids such as citric, tartaric, maleic, phosphoric or polyphosphoric acids. Cadmium, cobalt, indium iron or zinc compounds may also be present.
