Abstract
1,225,933. Electro-depositing gold and gold alloys. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 27, 1969 [Aug. 30, 1968], No.42588/69. Heading C7B. In an electro-plating bath for depositing gold or a gold alloy which comprises a soluble gold compound, a buffer and optionally one or more salts of a first metal to be deposited as an alloy constituent, the buffer consists of a salt of an inorganic acid and a second metal together with the corresponding hydroxide or an alkaline compound of the second metal and optionally an alkali metal salt of the same or of a different organic acid, the hydroxide or alkaline compound used being a compound which precipitates in the pH range 3-8. The second metal may be chromium aluminium, beryllium, a rare earth metal or zinc. In the example given the bath contains potassium gold cyanide, potassium aluminium sulphate, and potassium hydroxide; and aluminium sulphate may be added during operation to replace the aluminium deposited as aluminium hydroxide. Nickel sulphate may be present to produce gold/nickel alloy. Other alloying metals used may be cadmium, cobalt, iron, copper or the platinum metals.
