Abstract

1418933 Electrolytic production of magnetic recording material PILOT MAN-NEN-HITSU KK 25 Jan 1973 [14 April 1972] 3817/73 Heading C7B Magnetic recording material comprises an anodized aluminium or aluminium alloy surface, the pores of which are filled with a magnetic substance, e.g. by electro-deposition from a bath containing salts of Co, Ni, Mn, Mg and/or Fe to deposit Co, Ni, Fe or a magnetic alloy. Anodizing may be effected using an electrolyte containing at least one of sulphuric, chromic, phosphoric, sulphonic, sulphosalicylic, maleic, oxalic, phthalic, succinic, malonic, sulphamic, malic and tartaric acids; and optionally sodium hydroxide, ammonium borate, trisodium phosphate, sodium borate, sodium gluconate, sodium citrate, NH 4 SO 4 , thiourea, lauryl Na sulphate, Na EDTA, acetamide, glucose or saponin; and using D.C., A.C., D.C./A.C. or periodically reversed current. The electrolytic bath for deposition of the magnetic material may also contain salts of Mg, Cu, Al, V, Au, Sn, Zn or the rare earth metals, glycerine, ethylene glycol, polyhydric alcohols, (thio) urea, ammonium sulphate, boric acid, cresolsulphonic acid or sulphosalicylic acid. The electric current used may be D.C., A.C.; superimposed A.C./D.C., or periodically reversed D.C.
