Abstract

Moulds or machine parts are coated with an alloy of tungsten with one or more of the metals cobalt, nickel and iron, preferably by electrodeposition with the aid of an alkaline bath containing an organic hydroxylic acid as well as the required metal salts. In an example an alloy layer of 18-40% tungsten, the remainder being cobalt, is electrodeposited from a bath of the following composition: ..gms./litre .Co (in the form of chloride or sulphate).25 .W (in the form of Na2WO4).25 .Na-K-tartrate (Rochelle salt).400 .NH4Cl or (NH4)2SO4.50
