Abstract

125,317. Miller, H. W., and Bingley, F. Sept. 18, 1918. Framework.-Metal spars and girders for aircraft &c. are formed from thin sheet metal seamed together at their edges to form interlocking joints. Fig. 3 shows a box girder in which flanges e on members a, b are embraced by channels f on members c, d, offset portions g preventing displacement of the flanges e. The members c, d have lightening holes, the remaining metal being flanged and ribbed as shown at h, i. Figs. 4 and 5 show joints for members which do not meet at right-angles, shoulders k being formed on the members a.
