Abstract

1,251,567. Cartons. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. 20 Nov., 1969, No. 56907/69. Heading B8P. A carton having a liner 5 secured to first and second closure flaps 8 and 9 only is closed at one end by liner-end gusset-forming flaps 6, 7 infolded from sides 3 and 4 of the carton and by the closure flaps 8, 9, folded one over the other to overlie the infolded gusset-forming flaps 6, 7. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, each gusset-forming flap comprises first, second and third portions 23, 24, 25, and the first closure flap 8 consists of two separate parts 8a, 8b of which only the part 8b is hingedly connected, as at 10, to the gusset-forming flaps, and an opening 20a is formed by adjoining sides 23a, 25a of the first and third portions 23, 25 and the side 8c of the first closure flap 8. To close this carton, the second closure flap 9 and the part 8b, to both of which the liner 5 is secured, are moved towards each other to close the end of the liner 5 and the part 8a is then folded to overlie the closure flap 9. In this manner the closed end (22 Fig. 6) of the liner 5 is located between the closure flap 9 and the part 8a. A tongue 31 on the part 8a is received in a slit in the closure flap 9. A modification of this second embodiment includes a lid (32, Fig. 8) secured to the part 8a such that when the part 8a is folded to overlie the second closure flap 9 it embraces three sides of the carton (Fig. 9).
