Abstract

1,015,551. Handle for cartons. J. H. VINEBERG. July 25, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962], No. 29436/63. Heading B8P. A handle member for cardboard boxes has a base portion with side tabs 19 (Fig. 1) and a handle portion 11 hinged thereto with a flap 15 cut to form part of the base and an additional strengthening portion 20 with a slit through which the handle is passed prior to attaching to a box. An additional flap 16 may be cut from the hand hole 14 to give a folded edge to the handle. The handle portion may be passed through an additional strengthening portion 20 prior to attaching to a box. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a blank is folded about a central line 23, tabs 33 overlie the opposite base portion, flap 29 overlies base portion 36 and flap 31 is passed through the hand hole. The handle member may be made from two separate blanks identical with the opposed halves of Fig. 2 or from a single blank in which the two halves are joined along the lines 89 or 38 so that in the latter case tabs 32, 33 overlie each other. When the halves are joined along the lines 89 so that tabs 32, 33 overlie each other these tabs may have extensions which are folded between the main tab portions.
