A cardboard box comprises a body and a cover therefor, in which one wall or cover has a double-ply handle formed from two hingedly and integrally connected handle-forming portions with the handle being adapted to pass through a slot in the cover or wall, respectively. In the first embodiment the box comprises a tubular cover (not shown) and an open-top tray made from an integral blank, which is cut and scored to provide a bottom panel 3, Fig. 1, side walls 4 and 5, which may be provided with flaps 6. The wall 5 and an extension 7 are provided with a first and secondhandle forming portions 8 and 9, respectively, the trapezoidal handle is formed by releasing tabs 13 cut in the hand holes 12 and hingeing the handle portions 8, 9 about a common line 10 until the portion 9 is superimposed on portion 8, whilst the wall extension 7 engages, in a sliding movement, behind wall 5, wall 5 and extension 7 may be secured together by glue or staples and the body blank dispatched in a flat form ready for assembly. The tubular cover 1, for the body is provided with a slot 14, Fig. 5, corresponding to the shape of the handle through which the handle can be drawn. In a second embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), the box is formed from an integrally hinged wall portions, one wall of which is provided with a slot corresponding to the length and thickness of the handle, formed in a similar manner to the above and the three depending side walls, one of which carries the handle, are adapted to fit within the walls of the body, when the box is closed. In a third embodiment the box has a wall 24 on which the said handle 26 is formed, the handle passing through a slot 30 provided in a wall 28 of the lid 39. When the box is closed extensions 33 of side walls 31 and hinged tabs 34 of wall 28 are disposed between walls 32 and 32a. In a fourth embodiment a handle 42, Fig. 8, of double thickness is formed from a wall 40 and extension 43, the wall 40 having flaps 44 disposed between sides 48 of the box. The lid 45 has a slot 46 which receives the handle, side flaps 47 fitting between sides 48 and a flap 49, provided with a tongue 50 to engage a slot 57, when the box is closed.
