Abstract

1,240,658. Rolling. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 15 Nov., 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 52090/67. Heading B3M. A rod rolling mill includes a stand incorporating driven work rolls 20 and 21, which are pivotally carried in the frame by supporting arms 24 and 25, and backing rolls 22 and 23 either supported in self-aligning manner on projections 60 of the arms, or adjustably mounted in the frame 15. The arms 24 and 25 are located in the frame by a pair of pivot pins which can be removed to permit withdrawal of the rolls. A load cell 50 beneath the lower arm measures the rolling load, while actuators 51 and 52 serve to adjust the roll gap and prestress the mill. A thickness gauge may be used in combination with the actuator 51 to produce a desired thickness in the rolled stock. If desired, only the upper arm 24 is pivotally adjustable. the lower arm resting on an adjustable stop. The plane of the work rolls can be offset slightly from the plane of the backing rolls. The mill incorporates two similar stands arranged at 90 degrees to one another, the stands each being inclined at 45 degrees to the horizontal.
