Abstract

The mill consists of a pair of work rolls 30, each supported by three intermediate rolls 27, 28, 29 each in turn supported by two backing rollers 23, 24; and lateral backing rollers 21, 22, and 25, 26 respectively. All the rolls are supported along their full length to withstand forces in vertical and horizontal planes. The backing rollers 23, 24 may have screwdown control by the use of eccentric mountings, and the lateral roller assemblies may be adjustable by slidable wedges. The rolling mill is intended to provide work roll sizes in the range between the small sizes available with current cluster mill designs and the large sizes available with current four- high mill designs. <IMAGE>
