Abstract

481,466. Rolling rods and bars. BENEDETTI, F. DE. April 16, 1937, No. 10934. Convention date, April 18, 1936. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a rolling-mill for rolling members having a profile which is variable in the direction of rolling with one of the rolls mounted for movement relative to the other periodically, the movable roll is supported on toggle-jointed stays upon the pivots of which operate rotary cams. In the rolling-mill shown, the roll 3 is fixed by the screw 6, and the roll 4 is moved by slidable bearings which engage toggle-jointed stays 8, 8<1> which embrace pivots 10 and engage thrust members 9, 9<1>. Rollers 11 are arranged on the pivots 10 between the stays. Each pivot may be held in a fixed position by a screw 12 which carries a handle 14 with a head 15 which may engage a seating on a strap 13 on the frame 2. The rollers 11 normally bear on cams 22, 22<1> carried by a support 17, which cams are driven continuously or intermittently through tooth gearing by the operation of the mill. In a modification, the cams are carried on separate shafts arranged externally of the stays. The mill may be used to make tapered rods, or rods with reinforcements for use in aeroplanes.
