Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of thickness of the rolled material in the direction of breadth, by installing the intermediate rolls being divided into plural sections so as to be individually freely movable in the direction of axis, between the backup roll and respective upper and lower work rolls. CONSTITUTION:For instance, when the breadth of the rolled material 12 is comparable to the length of rolls of the work rolls 13a, 13b, the outermost intermediate rolls 21a, 21b, 21a', 21b', are respectively moved in the direction of axis, so as to make the distance between the left end of the outermost intermediate rolls 21a, 21b, and the right end of the outermost intermediate rolls 21a', 21b', to be corresponding to the breadth of the material 12. When the breadth of the material 12 is approximately equal to the sum of length of rolls of the intermediate rolls, the outermost rolls are all shifted so as to contact with the middle rolls 20a, 20b, and then the rolling work is proceeded. When the breadth of the material 12 is shorter than the sum of length of rolls of the intermediate rolls, the middle rolls 20a, 20b, are combined with either one of the outermost rolls, or only the middle rolls 20a, 20b, are assigned to the rolling work.
