Abstract

PURPOSE:To uniformly roll the strip in order to improve the product quality, by making the work roll and the backup roll on one side siftable mutually in the reverse directions along the breadth of the rolled strip. CONSTITUTION:The upper backup roll 5, integrally together with its roll chocks 6 and their connecting member 7, is made shiftable in the direction parallel and reverse to the shifting direction of the upper work roll 1, and besides, the lower backup roll chocks 9 are supported by cylinders 10 so as to be shiftable in the vertical direction. At rolling a strip, the upper work roll 1 is shifted to the right side so as to locate its left side edge nearly above the left side edge of the metallic strip S. Correspondingly to the shift of the upper work roll 1, the upper backup roll 5 is shifted to the left side by a requied distance. Hereby, the load distribution between the upper work roll 1 and the upper backup roll 5 is balanced between the left side and the right side so that the metallic strip S is rolled with a uniform rolling load.
