Abstract
1,237,146. High pressure apparatus. H. ISHIZUKA. 16 Aug., 1968 [25 Aug., 1967], No. 39212/68. Heading B1X. An ultra high pressure apparatus comprising punches 1, a die 2, and a hollow cylinder formed of sintered alumina 3, supported vertically under the pressure transmitted through the gaskets 5 from the conical surfaces of the punches, by a refractory material or metal ring 4 is provided with a protective coating 6 of ductile metal or alloy of at least 1mm in thickness on the portion of the punches extending outside the high pressure chamber 7, 8, 9, 9' are sintered refractory cylinders. Discs 11 and cylinders 12 may be of mild steel, the discs being welded in the form of lids for the cylinders. Mild steel rings 15 are separated by refractory ring 10. Discs 13 are of nickel plate. An electric current can be passed from punch 1 through parts 11, 12, 15, 14, 7 &c to punch 1' to heat the material in chamber 7.
