Abstract
A charge for producing diamonds in very high pressure, very high temperature apparatus of the type having a core ring and a pair of pistons (see Division B1) may comprise (by volume) 10 parts Ni particles, 1 part chromium carbide powder and 20 parts graphite. Particle sizes are specified. A pressure of 52,000-54,000 ats. and a temperature produced by a current of 1200-1500 A. at 1.5-1.8 v. produced light green diamonds in more than 50% yield.
