Abstract

1,215,018. Projectile fuzes. FORSVARETS FABRIKSVERK. 15 Dec., 1967 [2 Jan., 1967], No. 57025/67. Heading F3A. A nose fuze for a projectile comprises a fuze body 7; a first tube 30 comprising an annular detonator 6 and slots 13; locking elements 20 clamped between the inwardly directed flange 18 of a slidable sleeve 19 and the shoulder 21 of a plunger 9 which may contain a detonator 15; a friction ring 22; a second tube 12 having holes 17 through which the locking elements extend; and an inner hood 4 which is connected to the second tube 12 and abuts against the inside of an outer hood 1, 2, 3; the arrangement being such that as the fuze is accelerated with the outer hood in place, the sleeve 19, plunger 9 and friction ring 23 set back to unclamp the locking elements 20 but move forwards to re-clamp the locking elements when the acceleration decreases sufficiently, the friction ring dragging on the first tube 30 but being prevented from moving the tube forwards by virtue of the locking elements 20 engaging in the slots 13 and the holes 17 of the second tube 12 which is fixed by the inner and outer hoods, whereas when the outer hood is first removed, the first tube 30, and thus the second tube 12, are carried forwards by the friction ring 23 to a position where the locking elements 20 cannot be re-clamped, the forward movement of the plunger 9 driving the locking elements 20 along the slots 13 thus further advancing the second tube 12 to a position where the inner hood 4 falls away to expose the detonator 6. In this position the detonators 6 and 15 are aligned.
