Abstract
855,635. Grenades. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VONERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. Feb. 11, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 4850/59. Class 9(1). A grenade having a hollow tail 9 to fit over the muzzle of a firearm equipped with a muzzle brake is provided with an adapter 3 to close the vents in the muzzle brake. The adapter 3 is a sleeve retained in the tail 9 by a resilient metal ring 7 housed in a groove in the outer surface of the sleeve. An inwardly directed flange 4 in the sleeve acts as a stop when the grenade is placed in position on the gun, where it is held by a resilient metal ring 5 bearing against the brake surface. When the grenade cartridge is fired, the propellent gases thrust the grenade forwards, the sleeve 3 also moves forwardly but rearward gas pressure on the flange slows the sleeve, which is eventually ejected from the tail 9. In a modification, the flange 4 is replaced by a ring separate from the sleeve 3 and a clamp may bear against the ring, the clamp being provided with spring fingers to engage the muzzle of the gun.
