611,563. Machine guns. ZBROJOVKA BRNO, AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST. May 1, 1946, No. 13233. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1943. [Class 92 (ii)] A carrier 8 for the breech-block of a firearm is connected to a gas piston 6 and has its forward movement cushioned by a tubular buffer 3 which projects rearwardly from a housing 1 attached to the gun barrel and which presents an annular impact surface for engagement by a corresponding surface on the carrier 8. As shown, this buffer bears against a spring which surrounds the gas cylinder 2 and which is compressed when the buffer is struck by the forwardly moving carrier. The buffer slides on the cylinder and its flange 31 acts as a piston in the housing 1 for the cylinder. Holes 14 in the housing permit the entry and exit of air to and from the casing when the gun is firing, the air serving to cool the cylinder.
